Birmingham Airport (BHX) is the major hub in West Midlands and is one of the most easily accessible in Europe. Just ten minutes by rail from central Birmingham, or around 30 minutes by taxi (via the Coventry Road - A45), the airport has two major terminals and excellent facilities.

Close to Solihull and residing alongside the suburbs of Bickenhill, Hampton in Arden and Marston Green, the airport lies alongside a number of attractions. These include the Bickenhill Plantation, Elmdon Park, the Hatchford Brook Golf Centre, Pendigo Lake and the Sheldon Country Park. Those looking for accommodation close by often choose to stay at the neighbouring Crowne Plaza, which is just a short drive away and only a matter of minutes from the National Motorcycle Museum.

Just 13 km / 8 miles south-east of the city centre, Birmingham Airport has good connections to the West Midlands. Handling almost 10 million passengers each year, the facility offers a large choice of frequent scheduled flights to major European, North American and Asian destinations. Most other business and holiday destinations throughout the world can be reached with just one easy transfer.


The airport has recently installed a new SkyRail shuttle, which provides fast transfers for passengers directly to the city's busy train station and also to the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

Terminals

Birmingham's airport has two sizeable terminals, serving a large number of different airlines. Scheduled airlines include Aer Lingus, Air France, Bmibaby, Eastern Airways, Emirates, Flybe, KLM, Lufthansa, Monarch, Ryanair, Thomas Cook and Thomson Airways, as well as a number of other popular airlines. Terminals 1 and 2 are connected by the convenient Millennium Link walkway.

Cars

Located on the main A45 Coventry Road, next to Junction 6 on the M42, Birmingham Airport has excellent connections to many major motorways, including the M1, M5, M6 and M40. The city centre is reachable in roughly 30 to 45 minutes by car, depending upon traffic. Those simply dropping off passengers can make use of the 'Drop and Go' facility.

Trains

The modern SkyRail services connects the airport to both the Birmingham International Train Station and the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre (NEC). This popular service is completely free of charge and provides a useful alternative to buses.

The train station has good connections throughout the country, with regular trains travelling to London and many other major cities and towns, including 'nearby' Coventry, Nottingham, Royal Leamington Spa, Rugby and Wolverhampton.

Buses and Coaches

Buses are readily available, with designated bus stops sited outside of the terminal buildings. Buses run to and from Coventry, while the 966 service links both Erdington and Solihull. Coaches provide long-distance services, being operated by Megabus and National Express Coaches.

Black taxi cabs are readily available at Birmingham Airport (BHX) and are located outside of the terminal buildings. By taxi cab, the journey into the city centre should take around 30 minutes, depending upon traffic. Metered fares are applicable and major credit cards are now accepted.
