Getting Around, Glastonbury Travel, Transport and Car Rental
(Glastonbury, Somerset, England, UK)
Getting around Glastonbury couldn't be easier. Most visitors find that walking is the best way to travel around the town centre, with public bus transport connecting the neighbouring Clarks Shopping Village in Street, and also the famous Wells Cathedral.
For those wishing to travel further afield from Glastonbury with their own set of wheels, several motorways are a relatively short drive away and link some major tourist cities. Close to Glastonbury, rail transport is available in Castle Cary and is worth considering for long journeys and excursions, becoming particularly busy in late June, when excited festival-goers begin to arrive for the world-famous
Glasto Festival.

Bristol Airport (BRS) Guide
Car Rental
Road transport around Glastonbury is provided in no small way by the A39, which runs between the town and both Street and Wells, and also joins the M5 motorway,
Bristol and
Weston Super Mare. Those driving down from
London will likely arrive via the M3 and then the A303, passing
Stonehenge along the way. Around the town, the roads are fairly small and car parks are easy to come by, with nearby country lanes being narrow, winding and very different from driving in Glastonbury itself.
Buses and Coaches
There are five different bus services currently operating in Glastonbury, with this mode of transport being quick and easy to use, and linking the main places of interest, such as the Tor. Buses and National Express coaches also travel outside of the town and to towns and cities, such as
Bath, Bristol, Bridgwater, Castle Cary, Cheddar,
Frome, Pilton, Shepton Mallet, Street, Taunton, Wells and Yeovil.
Trains
The nearest train station to Glastonbury is to be found next door, in Castle Cary. From this station, trains travel between Bristol Temple Meads and London Paddington, the Midlands and Wales, amongst other destinations. Taxi transport is usually on hand at the station, travelling into the town centre in around 25 minutes. Alternatively, Bristol's railway station is approximately an hour away by bus.
Taxis
Taxi transport is fairly expensive and best used only for short journeys to attractions, restaurants and shops. The convenience of taxis really comes into its own after hours and allows visitors to safely return to their hotel after a night at a local pub, trying out the tasty Somerset ales.
