Surrounded by a series of restaurants and shops, the city's aptly named Central Market can be found in the heart of the Central Business District and is one of the biggest indoor food markets in Adelaide. This sizeable multicultural market has become something of a leading tourist attraction and began its life on Grote Street, way back in the late 1860s, with considerable redevelopment in the 1960s.

Elsewhere, further offerings can be found close by in a number of neighbouring towns and villages, such as those of Aldinga, Macclesfield, Mylor, Nuriootpa, Port Elliot, Stirling and Woodside.
