Public art works in the city can also be discovered by simply walking around the Rundle Mall shopping district and along Hindley Street. Alternatively, be sure to pencil in a visit to the Art Gallery of South Australia, next to the State Library and the University of Adelaide, where in excess of 35,000 pieces are viewed by over half a million visitors each year.

Located in the city centre, close to both the Parliament House and the Adelaide Festival Centre, the Art Gallery of South Australia is one of the largest art galleries in the city and was founded in the late 19th century. Housing many old masters and works of art painted by a number of famous artists, such as Rodin and Heysen, a range of traditional and more contemporary paintings and sculptures on several floors, a café area and a popular gift shop, the Art Gallery of South Australia also features free guided tours and many temporary exhibitions and events throughout the year.

Arts SA

Arts SA is so much more than just an art gallery. As well as hosting many art exhibitions by local artists from South Australia, Arts SA is also regularly home to some of the city's largest festivals and cultural events. Both the Convention Centre and the City West Campus stand close by and serve as useful points of reference.

Jam Factory Contemporary Art Centre

The Jam Factory Contemporary Art Centre is a large and popular commercial exhibition space and can be found in the heart of the city centre. Dedicated to modern paintings and sculptures, the Jam Factory Contemporary Art Centre holds many temporary exhibitions each year, usually by leading local artists. Other attractions include working studios, a glass-blowing room and separate art spaces.

Sestri Gallery

Situated in the coastal district of Glenelg, the Sestri Gallery hosts a number of temporary art exhibitions throughout the year, featuring art work produced by local Adelaide and South Australian artists.
