Getting Around, Lincoln Travel, Transport and Car Rental

(Lincoln, Nebraska - NE, USA)

How you choose to travel around the city of Lincoln really depends upon where you decide to stay. If you are based in the city center, then you will most likely opt to get around on foot, rather than use public transport.

Most of the main necessities are within walking distance of hotels in downtown Lincoln, along with numerous places of interest, such as the Children's Zoo, near the Antelope Creek, the Billy Wolff Trail and the Capitol Parkway. However, don't forget that the winter months are always cold and frosty, and if you are planning to walk around the city at this time of the year, you will certainly need to step it out and wrap up well to keep warm.

Bus transport is ideal if you intend to travel longer distances or during periods of inclement weather, while if you are in a rush, you can arrange to be collected by a taxi. When the sun in shining, you may like to make the most of the city's trail network and hire yourself a bicycle.

Car Rental

Being located on the southeastern side of Nebraska means that those who choose a hire car as their mode of transport can easily travel across no less than three nearby state borders, namely those of Kansas (south), Iowa (east) and Missouri (southeast). Interstate I-80 serves as the primary thoroughfare and connects Lincoln with the western state border of Nebraska, which runs to Cheyenne in Wyoming, and joins the I-76 to reach Sterling in Colorado. Other highways passing through the capital of Lincoln include the US-6, US-34 and US-77, as well as the Nebraska Highway 2.

Downtown Lincoln is organized as a gridwork of roads, with various rectangular blocks and just a handful of diagonal streets, such as the Normal Boulevard, which becomes the Capitol Parkway. During peak hours, traffic in downtown Lincoln quickly becomes congested and the same can be said on Saturdays, if the university is hosting a big football game at its Memorial Stadium.
