Lincoln Shopping and Districts

(Lincoln, Nebraska - NE, USA)

Nebraska's state capital of Lincoln is divided into a series of different adjoining neighborhoods, many of which come with their own selection of shops or small shopping centers.

These include the districts of Arnold Heights, Eastridge, Havelock, Haymarket, Indian Village, Near South, Piedmont, University Place, Village Gardens and colonial-style Williamsburg, amongst others, each of which has something different to offer shoppers.

Those staying in Lincoln who prefer a traditional American-style shopping mall should consider paying a visit to the Gateway Mall, where more than 100 different stores and services await. Being fully enclosed with plenty of parking spaces, the Gateway Mall is a particularly popular option for a rainy day and frequently gets extremely busy when the weekend arrives.

Where to Shop

The Gateway Mall resides on East O Street, on the eastern side of Lincoln and within the Eastridge neighborhood, where it opened back at the beginning of the 1960s and serves as the city's biggest shopping center. Extensions and renovations over the decades that followed have ensured that this mall remains modern, spacious and appealing, attracting big-name stores such as Dillard's, JC Penney, Sears, Spencer Gifts, Touch of Gold, Victoria's Secrets and Younkers.

Further shopping opportunities are to be found along the Centennial Mall, a lengthy strip mall on the western side of downtown Lincoln. Here, shops stand alongside restaurants, historic buildings and top attractions, such as the Lincoln Children's Museum.

The Haymarket neighborhood is an especially historic part of Lincoln and is known for its converted warehouses, specialty shopping and weekly farmers' market, which takes place here on Saturday mornings, between the months of May and October.

On the southern side of Lincoln, the Indian Village neighborhood is where you will find the popular Indian Village Shopping Center, which stands alongside South 13th Street and close to the Van Dorn Park. This small collection of out-of-town shops may not compete with the giant that is the Gateway Mall, although may draw your attention if you are driving by.
