Getting Around, Famagusta Travel, Transport and Car Rental

(Famagusta, Cyprus)

Picture of shops in the city centreTravelling around Famagusta should not usually present any problems, although the distinct lack of bus transport does mean that local taxis and rental cars are heavily used here. Those wishing to travel into the nearby Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus should note that you must always cross at the Green Line, and strictly nowhere else.

During the busy summer season, private bus transport is occasionally available, being provided by tour operators and connecting destinations beyond the Green Line. If you are simply planning to travel within Famagusta city centre and between shops, hotels and other places of interest, then getting around by foot is by far the easiest option.

Car Rental

Self-drive really is the easier and most popular way to travel around the Famagusta area, especially if you are intending to visit some of the outlying beaches, or planning a day trip to Ancient Salamis. Car rental is best arranged at Larnaca Airport and a good choice of both national and local Cypriot transport companies are onsite, being really very reasonably priced when directly compared to similar Mediterranean cities and resorts.

A handful of reliable private taxi firms currently operate in Famagusta, with Buras Taxis being amongst the best and known for its sizeable fleet of air-conditioned Merecedes. Taxi transport is quite affordable and in most cases, tariffs are based on fixed rates, so always clarify this before setting out on your journey.
