Bergen Airport, Flesland (BGO) Information

(Bergen, Hordaland, Norway)

Bergen Airport, located close to the city of the same name, is Norway's second-busiest air hub, serving over 5.5 million passengers a year. Also known locally as the Flesland Air Station, the complex offers both domestic and international flights. Bergen's original airport, financed by NATO, opened in 1955, with a new terminal being built in 1988 and still in operation.

The 11-gate terminal has entry gates that can be adjusted between the domestic and international areas, depending on the flight called. Usually, entry is divided equally between the two sectors. Almost 40 international routes are served by more than 15 individual carriers, including a British Airways route to London, Lufthansa routes to Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt, a KLM route to Amsterdam, an Icelandair route to Reykjavik, and Norwegian Air Shuttle flights to Mediterranean and southern Europe holiday and business destinations, such as Rome, Barcelona and Paris.

Domestic and regional carriers operating at Bergen Airport include Scandinavian Airlines, Wizz Air and Wideroe, the latter of which serves mostly Norwegian cities. Charter holiday flights also run from the complex via carriers including Air Europa, British Airways, Flybe and SunExpress. North Sea oil-related helicopter services operate here as well, using the old terminal as a base.
