Bergen Events and Festivals - 2014 / 2015

(Bergen, Hordaland, Norway)

Picture of busy Bergen Fish MarketAll through the year there are lots of things to do in Bergen, although it is the festivals and popular events each May that draw the biggest crowds. The Bergen International Festival is held over 12 days towards the end of May and is without a doubt the cultural highlight each year and features live music, dancing and even presentations about folklore, along with further related events all around the city.

Every May and on the very last Sunday, the Seven Peaks Hike is another well-supported event in Bergen and is a competition to climb to the top of each of the nearby mountain peaks, by foot. Although the route is around 30 km / 19 miles in length and features an accent of more than 2,000 metres / 6,562 feet, the current record is just over four and a half hours.

For a little culture in Bergen, the city's national theatre (Den Nationale Scene) will usually be staging something of interest, although most plays will be in Norwegian.
