The Hansa Bryggen
The Hansa Bryggen has got to be the best known sight in Bergen and everyone coming here seems to get their cameras out when they first see it - me included. The Bryggen is a particularly historic part of the city and is actually the old wharf district. There are many beautiful medieval houses and wooden buildings here, overlooking the harbourfront and painted in bright colours. In my opinion, this area is beginning to become a little too commercialised, with a few too many gift shops nowadays, but it still has loads of character. This is my favourite part of Bergen and the waterfront views are very special. I could spend hours exploring the narrow streets and lanes, stopping off the explore the pubs on the way - that's a very important part of the whole experience for me!
