Perth has many large shopping centres, pedestrianised precincts and large, modern malls, making this one of the best cities in Western Australia for retail opportunities. The Forrest Chase district is one of the principal areas for shopping in Perth and Forrest Chase is an especially lively place throughout the day, with street entertainment, buskers and street cafés.

For some of the latest high-street fashions, Rokeby Road and Hay Street in the Subiaco district and King Street in the city centre are full of stylish fashion boutiques. Other areas have their specialities, and Fremantle is known for arts and crafts, Claremont for lifestyle and fashion, and Guildford for antiques. Home to all of the biggest names in fashion and jewellery, Perth has a number of major strips, malls and pedestrianised districts where you can find a world-class selection of shops. The largest department stores are David Jones and Myer, both of which are located within the busy Murray Street Mall.


Ranging from designer labels to Aboriginal art galleries, antiques stores to gift shops, local shops are quite varied and very popular with locals, tourists and visitors to the Perth and Western Australian area. Shopping has become a major leisure activity with residents and many locals regard retail as a way of relaxing, particularly at the numerous flea markets, where there is always something to see and do.

One of the largest concentrations of antiques shops in Perth is situated in London Court and on Beaufort Street, where you will find an enormous range of interesting antiques and furniture stores. Other popular areas include the West Hay Street district, with a number of music shops, selling musical instruments and sheet music, the South Terrace area, with second-hand bookstores and Fremantle High Street, specialising in local Aussie arts and crafts.

Opening Hours

Most shops are open from 09:30 to 18:00 Monday to Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and until 21:00 on Thursday. Sunday trading in Perth is becoming increasingly popular, with shorter opening hours, although many of the city's shops remain closed on Sundays.
