Brisbane Art Galleries

(Brisbane, Queensland - QLD, Australia)

Brisbane Art GalleriesThere really is no good excuse not to pay a visit to the main art galleries of Brisbane, since most are centrally located and come with no admission charges whatsoever. Particularly noteworthy in Brisbane is the Institute of Modern Art (IMA), which was founded in the mid-1970s and became one of the very first dedicated contemporary art venues in Australia.

Tourists holidaying in this part of Australia also like to check out the Queensland Art Gallery, which is to be found alongside the Brisbane River and serves as the state's principal visual arts institution. Working hard to fulfill its philosophy of connecting people and art, the Queensland Art Gallery dates back to 1895 and has been on the South Bank since 1982, with a secondary building being added in 1990 to provide additional, much-needed exhibition space.
