There is plenty of decent shopping to be found around the island of Phuket and in particular, within the capital of Phuket City. Here you will discover a wealth of shopping opportunities, where you will be able to purchase quality souvenirs, such as local handicrafts, jewellery, leatherwear, various antiquities and of course, traditional Thai silk.

Markets in Phuket are a great place for shopping and exist within the main tourist hotspots, often operating early in the morning, or during the evening. When you are shopping for souvenirs of your holiday and looking for gifts, the island's markets are always a good place to start.

Where to Shop

Close to the city centre, the Th Ranong day market is a shopping paradise and has been trading in this part of Phuket for many years. Today, the market sells mainly food, although you will still find a selection of textiles and fabrics. In general, most of the main beach areas on Phuket feature a village market or two.

On the south-eastern side of Phuket City, the colourful Municipal Market will meet many of your food shopping needs, specialising in only the freshest produce and located close to the Robinson Ocean Plaza. A number of Indian-run clothing shops and tailors are sited on the northern side of the circle and on the Yaowarat Road, while the bustling Th Ranong market is a good place to find affordable jewellery and gold shops.

Tourists shopping in Phuket city will be pleased to discover many large department stores around the centre, and enormous supermarkets clustered around the actual bypass road. For clothing and some rather special boutiques, the shopping around Phuket City's historic district is particularly good along the Dibuk Road, Krabi Road, Thalang Road and Yaowarat Road. The huge Chatuchak Market along Phang Nga Road is also worth search out and the shopping here features a selection of inexpensive clothing, Thai handicrafts and plenty of jewellery, being close many good restaurants and eateries.

Perhaps the most vibrant street shopping on the island of Phuket is located next to Patong Beach, where many traders are jam-packed along the Beach Road itself and also the numerous interconnecting streets. A popular night market also takes place here, while other notable shopping destinations on Phuket include the resorts of both Bang Tao and also Surin.
