Dalian Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

The climate of Dalian is easy to summarise - hot summers and cold winters. Dalian's sandy Fujiazhuang, Jinshitan, Tiger and Xinghai beaches are always busy during the summer months, from June to August, when the sunny weather is especially prevalent. However, rain showers during the summer can also be expected, with the wettest months being July and August, influenced by monsoon weather.

Due to the weather extremes in Dalian, the resort is at its best during the spring months of April and May, and also towards the end of the summer and at the beginning of autumn, in September and October.


Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Dalian's climate is regularly described as temperate and is amongst the warmest in the whole of this north-easterly region of China. However, the climate is Dalian is often referred to as continental, due to its chilly winters, when temperatures in January and February regularly drop below freezing, both by day and night. The winter temperatures are also influenced by prevailing winds from the Yellow Sea, which can add a noticeable wind-chill factor.

Visiting Dalian during the spring is a great time to sightsee, when both the weather and climate during April and May is especially pleasant. Autumn too, between September and October, is also a good time to stay in the city, although there is always something to see and do in Dalian regardless of the time of year.
