Savannah Hilton Head International Airport is situated just off I-6 about 8 miles / 13 km west of downtown Savannah. The airport is a busy facility with the bulk of its air traffic being to and from domestic locations, with American, Delta, United and US Airways all offering travel to Atlanta, Charlotte in North Carolina and other US destinations. Alternatively, overseas visitors can fly to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which handles connections from all over the world.

Car Rental

Rental vehicles are available at the airport and in town from popular hire travel companies. Driving conditions in Savannah are deemed moderate and visitors should not feel overly intimidated should they decide to negotiate the city from behind a wheel. Three Interstates serve the city - the I-95 runs north to south and intersects with I-16, I-16 runs west to downtown and intersects with I-95, while also connecting Southside with the industrialized area north of the city.

Buses and Coaches

Selected areas of the city are served by public bus services operated by the Chatham Area Transit Authority. The Greyhound buses runs services which travel from Savannah to neighboring Atlanta, as well as major US destinations farther afield.


Amtrak operates a train station at Savannah for the Palmetto and Silver Service trains, which run between Boston and Miami. There are three southbound and three northbound trains calling at the station on a daily basis.


Savannah has a good selection of taxi firms operating from the airport and within the city. Passengers are advised to call and book cabs ahead of requirement.
