Savannah is blessed with an abundance of museums covering all aspects of its rich history. Visitors who have an interest in war exhibits can pay a visit to Fort Stewart, as well as the Mighty 8th Air Force Heritage Museum.

Savannah History Museum at the Visitors Center

The History Museum at the Visitors Center is located on the site of the 1779 Siege of Savannah, a famous Revolutionary War battle. Visitors can explore this 20,000-square-foot facility, which features a range of displays chronicling the history of the area since its founding by James Oglethorpe in 1733.

Davenport House Museum

The Davenport House Museum was originally built as a residence for the prominent and affluent Davenport family back in 1820. The property is now open for public viewing and visitors can enjoy the magnificent period furnishings as well as a range of artifacts that belonged to the family during their residency here.

Owens Thomas Museum

The Owens Thomas Museum is a building designed by famous Savannah architect William Jay and was built back in 1819 as the family home for the Richard Richardson family. Later during the depression of the 1820s, the property became a boarding house until its purchase by George Owens in 1830. Now under the ownership of the Telfair Museum of Art, the house is open to visitors who can view its fine regency architecture, as well as one of the South's finest examples of early urban slave quarters.

The 24th Infantry Division / Fort Stewart Museum

Hamilton Turner Museum

This is a historic building that previously served as home and social venue to affluent Savannah residents. Reference to the house is made in the famous book 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' by John Berendt. Mighty 8th Air Force Heritage Museum

The Mighty 8th Air Force Heritage Museum is a 90,000-square-foot facility which pays tribute to past and present members of the 8th Air Force, which was first established in Savannah back in 1942.
