There is also a selection of hotels close to the San Antonio International Airport (SAT), which is only 8 miles / 13 km to the west of the city center, in the Starland Park area. Accommodation especially nearby includes the Staybridge Suites Hotel on the Clyde East Martin Drive, which is just off the Interstate I-95, right next to the Airways Avenue and just minutes from the terminal itself.

Where to Stay

In general, there is little in the way of budget accommodation in Savannah, with the majority of hotels falling within the mid-range lodging category. However, if you are looking for somewhere cheap to stay, then consider one of the city's B&Bs and historic inns, which tend to be competitively priced.

Worth noting, hotels tend to be at their least expensive during the middle of the week, and fall even further in the low season, in the autumn and winter months. On the southwesterly outskirts of Savannah and next to the Georgetown suburb, the Super 8 Motel on Canebrake Road (off Fort Argyle Road) is especially cheap, reliable and recommended by past guests.

Some of the most noteworthy mid-range lodging areas in Savannah are located around Bay Street, the Hodgson Memorial Drive, River Street, West Bay Street and White Bluff Road, where the three-star Country Inn and Suites Hotel stands alongside both the Chatham Plaza and the Oglethorpe Mall. Also of note is the historic accommodation available at the Inn at Ellis Square, which occupies the mid-19th century Guckenheimer Building and is packed with Southern character, being conveniently close to Bay Street, River Street and the City Market. From this hotel, the popular Tybee Island Beach is roughly 18 miles / 29 km away and easily reached by car.

Within the Historic District, the Holiday Inn Express Hotel on East Bay Street is well-placed for sightseeing and even comes with its very own observation deck on the rooftop, although expect to pay extra for views of the Savannah River. Across the River and right next to the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center, the four-star Westin Harbor Hotel Resort and Spa on the Resort Drive resides within the city's River District and offers a taste of luxury accommodation, with spa facilities at the Greenbrier Spa and access to an exclusive championship golf course.
