Where to Stay

A variety of accommodation options are available within the historic centre of Trieste. These have the advantage of being located close to some of the city's most popular tourist attractions. Visitors who are in search of style will be delighted to find the likes of the Grand Hotel Duchi d'Aosta, which is housed in a 19th-century palace on Trieste's main square, the Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia. The most upmarket hotels generally offer great location, elegant furnishings and fine cuisine served within the hotel's restaurant. However, there are also several mid-range hotels in this central district of Trieste that offer comfortable accommodation at reasonable prices.

These can be found mainly in the Borgo Teresiano district of Trieste and in the area around the railway station. As well as hotels which offer traditional styling and old world atmosphere, there are also those which are set in more modern surroundings with all the amenities and lodging to match.

A number of hostels can be found by heading out of Trieste. Hostels offer simple but functional rooms, usually with some dormitory accommodation. The city's Ostello della Gioventù is situated on the coast and, although some distance from Trieste itself, hostel guests can enjoy some wonderful sea views.

There are several campsites which are a short drive or bus journey from Trieste. These are well-equipped as a rule, and some even offer sports facilities.
