The Galerie Eigen and Art is famed for its promotion of local German contemporary art works and also features a secondary gallery branch in Berlin. The temporary exhibitions within the Galerie Eigen and Art are amongst the best in the city and often tour major cities around the world.

Museum of Fine Arts (Museum der Bildenden Künste)

The Leipzig Museum of Fine Arts (Museum der Bildenden Künste) is one of the city's most notable art galleries and dates back more than 170 years. With a huge collection of literally thousands of paintings, sculptures, prints, sketches and drawings, many of the exhibits are rotated on a regular basis, to ensure that there is always something fresh to be appreciated. Of particular interest is the museum's extensive Cranach collection, the many contemporary pieces and paintings by local up-and-coming German artists.

Daetz Centrum

The Daetz Centrum lies close to Leipzig and is worth a visit, being home to an impressive collection of wood carvings and sculptures, known as 'masterpieces in wood' (meisterwerke in holz). These ornate and intricate sculptures cover many different themes, ranging from the human form and exotic animals, to Canadian totem poles and stylised African figurines.

Museum of Arts and Crafts (Museum für Kunsthandwerk)

Part of the highly acclaimed Grassi Museum (Grassimuseum) complex, along with both the Museum of Ethnology and also the Museum of Musical Instruments, the Museum of Arts and Crafts is the perfect place for art lovers visiting Leipzig. Home to Renaissance-style paintings, ceramics, a number of historic artefacts, spacious galleries and halls, and various themed exhibitions, the highlight of the year is the annual Leipzig Grassi Trade Fair (Grassimesse), an exceptional trade fair held each October, where contemporary art works in all descriptions can be purchased.

Known in Leipzig as the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, the acclaimed Gallery of Contemporary Art offers everything that you would expect and more. Art works from around Europe and beyond are regularly exhibited here and often include paintings by notable and emerging artists of both the 20th and 21st century.
