Leipzig New City Hall
The New City Hall in Leipzig is called the Neus Rathaus in German. Obviously it must have been new once, but it is not really new anymore though - it's over 100 years old! It was some quite nice Renaissance features and more than 500 rooms - it's huge, rather like a great big palace. There are seven floors, a red tiled roof and a big central tower with a large cupola on the top of it.

Hainstrasse
Come to the Hainstrasse to see some of the best buildings in the Old Town of Leipzig. This is a nice pedestrianised street and has some interesting shops, place to eat, and lots of period architecture, both Baroque and Renassiance side by side.

Anyone for opera?
The Leipzig Opera House is the result of a design competition and was built in the 1950s. It is quite simple in its design and looks rather plain, but inside the acoustics are wonderful. Try to book yourself some tickets as soon as you arrive. All of the seats have really good views, so don't worry if there aren't many seats left. At the front, on the Augustusplatz, there is a big circular pool with a very tall fountain. The Opera House replaced a 19th century theatre which was bombed in 1943 and destroyed.
