Hobart Markets and Salamanca Market

(Hobart, Tasmania - TAS, Australia)

Hobart MarketsHobart is widely known for its exceptional markets and tourists visiting the city often find themselves drawn to the stalls when looking for good-quality Aussie craftsmanship and unusual souvenirs.

Well worth a visit is the excellent Salamanca Market, which is based within the inner-precinct of Salamanca Plaza, just across from Parliament Square and St. David's Park, and close to Sullivans Cove. Established by locals in Hobart during the early 1970s as a friendly community project, the Salamanca Market began its life with just a dozen or so stalls and has steadily grown in size over the subsequent decades, regularly attracting enormous crowds each Saturday which now exceed 25,000 people. Interestingly, this makes it the most visited 'attraction' in the whole of Tasmania.
