Better known as KLIA, Kuala Lumpur International Airport is the main gateway to Selangor. It is actually closer to Shah Alam than the capital, Kuala Lumpur, being located to the south, within the Sepang district. The airport is futuristic and loaded with facilities, and receives flights worldwide. It also comes with a terminal dedicated to low-cost airlines, including AirAsia, which provides affordable flights to Malaysian and international destinations such as Bali, Bangkok, Bangalore, Chiang Mai, Chennai, Guilin, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Johor Bahru, Kolkata, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Labuan, Langkawi, Penang, Phuket, Singapore, Solo, Surabaya and Yogyakarta, amongst other popular cities. Buses and taxis run to Shah Alam from either terminal in under an hour.

Car Rental

Cars can be rented at KLIA and then the drive to Shah Alam is about 40 minutes by Highway E6. You can also drive in from Kuala Lumpur along Route 2, from the centre of the capital. Driving in Malaysia is straightforward, as the roads are generally good and local drivers, for the most part, follow the rules of the road.

Buses and Coaches

There is a direct bus to Shah Alam from Kuala Lumpur. This is the RapidKL, numbers 63 and 338, which goes from the KL Sentral to the Shah Alam Komuter station in the city centre. Other bus services are available and also connect the city, and in particular its PKNS Plaza Mall (close to the mosque), while minibus services travel from here on a regular basis, to and from local Selangor suburbs.

Trains

Shah Alam is on the Kuala Lumpur - Klang line (the KTM Komuter line) and services run from the Kuala Lumpur Sentral station throughout the day, offering a journey time of approximately 45 minutes. There are several stops in Shah Alam, including the Batu Tiga Komuter station, the Komuter station in Section 19, the Padang Jawa Komuter station in Section 17, and the Sungai Buloh Komuter station in Section U20.

Taxis

You can get about by bus and minibus, although taxi travel is more convenient as the city's attractions are quite spread out. Taxis are metered and not expensive. If, for whatever reason, the driver doesn't turn on the meter, get in the next taxi, or be sure to agree the price beforehand.
