Shah Alam Shopping and Districts

(Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia)

Shah Alam shopping is true to form in Malaysia, coming with a large number of shopping malls in and around the city centre. They include the Plaza Alam Sentral, the SACC Mall and the Plaza Shah Alam for starters.

Prices for clothing and electronics in the city are similar to Kuala Lumpur, although of what traditional Malaysian handicrafts you can find, they are generally a little more expensive.

When to Shop and Where

Of the many shopping malls in the city, the Shah Alam City Centre Mall (commonly known as the SACC Mall) is a popular option. It has a decent supply of fashion and sports stores featuring brand name goods.

There are also several hypermarkets with grocery shopping and food courts in Shah Alam. The Kompleks PKNS is well-known and has a sheltered food court on the roof that is partially open to the elements, offering good views as well as decent, cheap food.

The Plaza Shah Alam mall is ideal for those with kids, as it caters to families and has a food court, as well as separate activities. It is just out of town, while the best shopping action can be had in the Section (Seksyen) 14 area, within the city centre. Sections 13 and 9 are also popular.

There is not much in the way of market shopping in Shah Alam and you would be better off sticking to Kuala Lumpur if you are after good-value souvenirs and handicrafts.
