Shah Alam Museums and Art Galleries

Shah Alam contains a handful of museums and art galleries, although most folks don't specifically make the trip from Kuala Lumpur for them. You can learn all about the history and culture of the state of Selangor at the city's number one museum, the Sultan Alam Shah Museum. It comes complete with dioramas, models and more.

The Selangor Islamic Arts Complex is especially notable for those interested in Islam and its sacred writings, while the Shah Alam Gallery is good for local Malaysian art works. Meanwhile, you can also learn about regional history and art at the enormous Perpustakaan Tun Uda library.


Selangor State Museum

The Selangor State Museum, or Sultan Alam Shah Museum, delves into the history of Selangor state, with models of colonial buildings and an array of artefacts. There are four main galleries located here, including the History Gallery and the Cultural Gallery, along with the Islamic Gallery and the Natural History Gallery. Families will find that their children will enjoy admiring the huge stuffed crocodile exhibit, which is said to be the biggest ever caught in Peninsula Malaysia.

Selangor Islamic Arts Complex

The Selangor Islamic Arts Complex is not far from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque and is known for its Islamic art work and calligraphy. This popular attraction resides on a large site and is like no other, with lots of activities, including Quran writing classes at the onsite Islamic Art College. Visitors are welcome to use class facilities.

Shah Alam Gallery

The Shah Alam Gallery is situated on the banks of the Lake Gardens and comes with a particularly large range of art, along with shows and exhibitions. Paintings and sculptures on exhibit have been created by various local artists and include a variety of media, as well as fabrics and traditional Malaysian handicrafts. The gallery is a good side attraction in the Lake Gardens.
