Shah Alam Tourist Attractions and Sightseeing

Shah Alam is a little thin on the ground for tourist attractions. Most of the city's main attractions entail getting close to nature or getting physical with sports activities, although there are also some impressive monuments.

Situated on the city's outskirts is the huge Malaysia Agriculture Park (Taman Pertanian), which comes with many side attractions and its own zoo, while sports facilities can be enjoyed at either the Shah Alam Stadium or at the Malawati Stadium. For families, the city is surrounded by many beautiful parks and gardens, including the Lake Gardens. The Lagoon Theme Park is also perfect for families and makes for a fun day out.


Malaysia Agriculture Park (Taman Pertanian)

The Malaysia Agriculture Park, just north of the city centre, features lots of sights and sounds for all ages. The landscaping is the main highlight and comprises the Orchid Garden, the Ornamental Garden, the Cactus Garden, the Bamboo Garden and the Spice Garden. There is also a small zoo onsite, plus visitors can cycle or ride a horse around the park, or even go fishing. The Four Seasons building adds further interest and simulates spring, summer, autumn and winter, one by one.

SkyTrex Adventure

SkyTrex Adventure is on the site of the Malaysia Agriculture Park in north Shah Alam and is a popular attraction for those with a head for heights and jungles. Visitors are able to stroll amongst the jungle canopy, going from tree to tree over 20 metres / 66 feet above the ground, via swings and bridges. SkyTrex Adventure is good for groups and families, although can get very busy at the weekend. You should also bear in mind that this is quite pricey and is therefore not really suitable for those counting the pennies.

Sports and Activities

The city boasts excellent sports facilities, of which the Sports Complex, home to the massive Shah Alam Stadium, is a highlight. This giant multi-purpose venue is only slightly smaller than the National Stadium and comes with a whopping 80,000 seats, being officially opened in 1994 as the home ground of the Football Association of Selangor (Selangor FA). In the adjacent car park, City Karting Enterprise operates a popular go-karting attraction. Close by and capable of seating around 10,000 spectators, the Malawati Stadium also has excellent sports facilities and stages many big indoor events, including boxing matches and tennis tournaments.

Wet World

Located in the city is the Wet World Shah Alam attraction, where families can enjoy water recreation on hot sunny days. The park is to be found at the Lake Gardens, where it opened in 1996 and has appealed to families ever since. Although not overly large, it comes with a long water slide and several other thrilling water-related rides and activities for kids, such as Atlantis City, Neptune's Challenge, the Lighthouse Escape and the Cascading Waterfall. There are also restaurants and picnic facilities onsite.

Lake Gardens

This delightful park in the city centre is based around a total of seven manmade lakes and is quite beautiful. There are playgrounds here, along with walking and cycling paths. Boating is available on the lakes, and both kayaks and rowing boats can be rented by the hour. The park is also good for picnicking and has floating seafood eateries. Throughout the year, the Lake Gardens plays host to an assortment of popular events, often being staged at the lakeside Laman Budaya exhibition and performance centre.

Sunway Lagoon Theme Park

The Sunway Lagoon Theme Park is a fun water park lying just a short distance to the east and is one of the top places to go in the area. It features water slides, pools and various rides, as well as one of the world's biggest artificial surf beaches. The Sunway Wildlife Park also resides here and contains plenty of exotic creatures, while the Extreme Park offers paintballing and all-terrain driving. In addition, there is a shopping mall onsite, known as the Pyramid, and a wacky museum tour where the exhibits come to life, based within the resident Scream Park.

Extreme Park

This fantastic park is sited near to the Shah Alam Stadium, where it features an inline skate park - reputed to be amongst the best anywhere in Malaysia. Extreme Park is perfect for folks with impatient kids and also comes with a climbing wall and a paintball arena. Various cheap eat are on offer here at the fast-food outlets, which include a Burger King, KFC and Pizza Hut restaurant.
