Greater Philadelphia contains more than 1,000 churches, with around 130 Roman Catholic, over 50 Jewish synagogues and approximately 830 other churches, including Protestant.

Located close to Logan Square, the old and rather imposing Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul is a particularly special building in Philadelphia and functions as the head of the city's Roman Catholic Archdiocese. This is the biggest cathedral in the whole of Pennsylvania and it understandably appears on America's National Register of Historic Places.

The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul is a beautiful Italian-style building and enjoys a particularly large Roman Catholic following. Dating back to the mid-19th century, the cathedral took almost 20 years to complete and features impressive architecture, with a large dome and vast interior, full of interesting and historic features.

Christ Church

One of the city's historical highlights, Christ Church was completed in 1754 and has a huge 200-foot / 61-meter steeple and symmetrical façade with arched windows. Based on works by Sir Christopher Wren and built on the site of an earlier late 17th-century wooden church, this fine Georgian edifice features brass plaques that mark the original pews of the likes of George and Martha Washington and Betsy Ross.
