Originally built in 1786 and later refurbished after the 1812 earthquake, the historic Mission Santa Barbara is referred to as the 'Queen of Missions' and is one of the most recognized images of coastal California. This Franciscan mission with its classic twin towered façade is still a functioning Catholic church and hosts many cultural and religious events. Visitors can tour the mission, its surrounding grounds featuring local cacti and palms, and the museum which displays artifacts from the mission's past.
