San Francisco Hotels and Accommodation

(San Francisco, California - CA, USA)

Accommodation in San Francisco can be a little expensive, but there are certainly plenty of appealing hotels to choose between. The San Francisco Visitor Information Centre offers a convenient hotel booking service, should you be in need of assistance in your search for suitable lodging in the city.

Luxury hotels are available in some areas of San Francisco, often featuring superb views of the Bay, and a number even overlook the Golden Gate Bridge itself. For an interesting alternative, there are also spacious houseboats located on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge and these can be hired for weekly periods, offering very affordable accommodation and superb waterfront views.

The foggy summer in San Francisco marks the very height of the peak season and this time of the year is when hotels in the city are at their most expensive. If you are struggling to find somewhere to stay, then do consider the chain accommodation and basic motels lining the US Highway 101 (Lombard Street) and the Fisherman's Wharf. The HI San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf is a particularly notable youth hostel and resides within the Fort Mason Building, suiting budget travelers.

Hotels are especially concentrated within the districts of Castro, Chinatown, the Civic Center, Union Square, Haight-Ashbury, the SoMa and the Mission. Further accommodation stands within the North Beach neighborhood of the city, lying alongside Jackson Square and the Russian Hill, the latter of which rather shelters this area from possible ocean breezes and subsequent fog.

Much of the accommodation in San Francisco does not include breakfast, but this simply allows you to sample the numerous restaurants, cafés and diners throughout the city, which provide tasty, memorable meals. Eating out for breakfast is normally fairly inexpensive.
