Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) Information

(Maastricht, Limburg, Netherlands)

As its name implies, the Maastricht Aachen Airport serves both the city of Maastricht and its near neighbour Aachen, being based within the province of Limberg. It is also a major Netherlands hub for cargo flights.

This complex is located close to the small towns and suburbs of Beek, Brommelen, Geulle, Geverik, Hussenberg, Schietecoven, Ulestraten and Waterval, on the outskirts of Maastricht. Originally a temporary WWII airfield, the facility was constructed in 1944 after the Normandy landings by the USAAF 9th Air Force. By the year 1950, it was operating as a commercial airport.

As passenger throughput and airlines using the airport have increased, modifications and renovations to its infrastructure have taken place. The latest updates, the result of privatization, occurred in 2008 and saw the updating of its runway, instrument landing system and single terminal, in order to offer enhanced facilities for airlines, cargo carriers and its present annual passenger throughput of around 400,000.

Airlines serving the facility are Ryanair, Corendon Airlines, Germanwings and Transavia. Germanwings and Corendon run two scheduled flights to Berlin and Antalya respectively, with the two low-cost carriers (Ryanair and Transavia) operating seasonally to Alicante, Girona, Malaga, Mallorca and Tenerife (Spain), Faro and Porto (Portugal), Creteand Rhodes (Greece), and Pisa and several other popular Italian destinations. The airport is also a hub for general aviation.

Facilities:

Cars

The Maastricht Aachen Airport's complex is adjacent to the A2 motorway's exit 50, giving fast and well-signposted access direct to both cities and beyond. The journey to Maastricht city normally takes around 15 minutes, although heavy traffic during rush hour can understandably cause delays. En route, you will pass by Kasen, Kruisberg, Weerterveld, Marienwaard and Kasteel Rijckholtplein.

Buses

The Veolia bus service offers a connection between the airport and the Beek-Elsloo Railway Station for overground trains to Maastricht's main station. A shuttle service is provided from the airport to Aachen, which then travels on to Cologne, Roermond and Dusseldorf in Germany.

Taxis and Limos

Metered taxis are located outside the terminal and offer shared or private onward transportation. Executive sedans and limos are also available and easily reserved. Passengers should note that much of central Maastricht is pedestrian-only and therefore taxis can't always make drop-offs at city centre hotels.
