Capital of Holland and home to many truly memorable attractions, Amsterdam can be reached in just over two hours and is located approximately 216 km / 134 miles to the north of Maastricht.

Also of interest are the attractions in Eindhoven, Rotterdam and The Hague (Den Haag), three very different Dutch cities, each with something quite unique to offer. A small town found just 14 km / 9 miles to the east of Maastricht, Valkenburg features an extremely over-commercialised centre, which caters well to the crowds of visiting tourists.

Amsterdam

Visitors of all ages flock to Amsterdam to enjoy its infectious atmosphere, historical architecture, art galleries, exceptional museums and acclaimed attractions, such as the extremely popular Anne Frank Museum. Amsterdam also boasts a dynamic restaurant scene, with literally hundreds of dining options catering to all possible tastes. However, no trip to Amsterdam could be considered to be complete without a stroll around the buzzing Red Light District, where many characterful bars and street cafes await.

Eindhoven

Eindhoven offers the perfect day-trip destination and many visitors choose to visit this interesting city for its art galleries alone. Situated some 87 km / 54 miles north of Maastricht, Eindhoven boasts an especially lively nightlife district, which goes by the name of the Het Stratumseind and features over 30 different restaurants and bars. If you are lucky, you may well be able to enjoy a football match at the Philips Stadium, where Eindhoven's very own PSV soccer team draws crowds of more than 30,000 spectators.

Rotterdam

Lying roughly 200 km / 124 miles to the north-west of Maastricht, Rotterdam is just about close enough to many a day trip possible. Those choosing to visit Rotterdam will discover many modern buildings within this bustling metropolis, although there are plenty of historical attractions clustered within both the Delfshaven area and the Oude Have district, the latter of which is near to the Blaak train station.

The Hague (Den Haag)

Once the capital of the Netherlands some 200 years ago, The Hague is a particular favourite for many and is sited around 231 km / 144 miles from Maastricht. The Hague does not really have a true central core, instead it contains a series of different districts, each with their own set of attractions. Highlights in Den Haag include the Maurithuis, the famous Mesdag Panorama, and the parliament buildings around the Binnenhof (Inner Court).

Valkenburg

Tour buses are a common sight in Valkenburg, driving past the main attractions and around the town's outskirts.

Outside of central Valkenburg, many scenic cycle paths and nature trails await in the surrounding forests, offering a complete contrast.
