Maastricht Museums and Art Galleries
(Maastricht, Limburg, Netherlands)
Amongst the very best museums and galleries in Maastricht, the Bonnefantenmuseum Art Museum is particularly famous for its 28-metre / 92-foot tower, which has become nothing short of a local landmark in the city of Maastricht.
The Bonnefantenmuseum opened its doors to its very first visitors in 1995 and features a number of priceless Old Masters, medieval sculptures and modern art works, each of which occupies its very own floor.
The Maastricht Natural History Museum is better known locally in Dutch as the Natuurhistorisch Museum and is perfect for families, being filled with fossils from all over Limburg, stuffed animals and even some remains of Giant Turtles, amongst other exhibits. The Spaans Gouvernement is filled with antiquities from the 17th century onwards, along with many exceptional collections of porcelain, glassware and oil paintings.
Also of interest in Maastricht is the Derlon Museum Cellar, where you can view some ancient archaeological exhibits and Roman treasures, unearthed at this very site in recent years. With free admission, this is certainly one not to miss if you are close by.
