If you intend to spend the rest of your arrival day sightseeing, consider buying a multi-zone, one-day travelcard, which will save you money. There are also 'airbuses' which run from outside all four Heathrow terminals to several key destinations in the city and can be a useful way to travel if you have a lot of luggage.
