Poole Churches and Chapels

(Poole, Dorset, England, UK)

Poole ChurchesA huge number of churches reside in Dorset, many of which are either located in Poole or are just a short drive away. One of the most central is St. James Church, which stands on Thames Street and is within strolling distance of the Waterfront Museum and Poole's Quayside.

St. James is especially historic and dates back to 1821, although this particular spot is known to have been home to churches since the late 12th century. It is worth stepping inside to admire the various nautical features, which include tall masts from old sailing ships - now functioning as wooden pillars, as well as images of seashells and dolphins - remembering the town's strong fishing heritage.
