Further boats sail to and from nearby Brownsea Island, where tourists will find attractions such as endangered red squirrels and a number of secluded sandy beaches. Brownsea Island is owned by the National Trust and offers superb views of Poole Harbour and the Purbeck Hills, as well as innumerable wildlife trails and endless bird watching opportunities.

Brownsea Island

Brownsea Island is a popular nature reserve in this part of Dorset. This important island is situated at the mouth of Poole Harbour and is an island of heath and woodland. Brownsea Island covers around 200 hectares / 500 acres and is famous for being home to native red squirrels, wading birds, peacocks and a variety of interesting wildlife. Brownsea Island Ferries make regular journeys to the island between April to October and sail from the Quay.
