There is certainly plenty of choice in Christchurch when it comes to the game of golf, and many courses reside within Canterbury, often being just a matter of minutes away from your hotel. Popular clubs include the Harewood, McLean's Island and the Russley Club, the latter of which has become well-known for hosting the New Zealand Open championship.

Located on the north-eastern side of the city, near Burnwood Park, the Horseshoe Lake Reserve and Richmond Park, is the Christchurch Golf Club. Especially historic, being established in 1873 and now ranking as the second-oldest course in the whole of New Zealand, the Christchurch Golf Club has played host to countless championships over the decades, including the New Zealand Open and Amateur. Visitors are allowed to play here and are requested to wear collared shirts, tailored shorts or trousers, and golf shoes (with socks). When you first arrive here, report to the pro shop to organise your tee-off.
