Punting on the Avon River

Cruises

Christchurch operates a variety of cruises around the city's south-eastern coastline, around Lyttelton Harbour, the nearby Banks Peninsula and the port towns of Akaroa and Kaikoura, which are all within easy driving distance of central Christchurch. Christchurch Gondola

The Christchurch Gondola has long been one of the major tourist attractions for visitors to the city and can be found to the south of Cathedral Square, around the Port Hills. With incredible, panoramic views of the city, the Southern Alps and the Canterbury Plains, the Christchurch Gondola is a small cable car which travels almost 1,000 metres / 3,280 feet up the Port Hills, where you will find a café, a gift shop and an observation deck.

The Estuary of the Avon and Heathcote Rivers is situated in eastern Christchurch, close to the coastal Sumner district. This vast area is home to some of the city's most beautiful natural scenery and contains an enormous amount of local flora and fauna, with many waterfowl and wading birds. Other attractions around the Estuary of the Avon and Heathcote Rivers include windsurfing, cycle trails and walking / tramping routes.

Christchurch Tramway

The extremely historic Christchurch Tramway is one of the city centre's main attractions and the trams have been lovingly restored over the years. Dating back to the late 19th century, the Christchurch Tramway is renowned for being the oldest working tramway in the whole world and travels approximately 2.5 km / 1.5 miles around central Christchurch, the Cathedral Square, the Arts Centre and the Botanic Gardens.

Esplanade
