Bangalore Churches, Basilicas and Cathedrals

(Bangalore, India)

Bangalore is home to a number of historic and extremely impressive cathedrals, basilicas, chapels and churches. Amongst the most noteworthy of these buildings, St. Mark's Cathedral dates back as far as 1808 and is known for its beautiful colonial facade, large dome, external bells, elaborate carvings, woodwork and monuments.

Other religious buildings of interest in Bangalore include St. Mary's Basilica, which originally started life in 1818 as just a small chapel, being transformed into a rather grand Gothic-style church some 60 years later, when many magnificent stained-glass windows were added.

Also look out for St. Andrew's Kirk, which is located along Cubbon Road, and runs directly alongside MG Road. Bangalore's St. Andrew's Kirk is a Scottish church and features a particularly grand pipe organ, together with detailed stained-glass windows depicting scenes from the bible.

All of these churches are regularly open and welcome sightseeing tourists, or those looking for a place of worship. The relevant addresses are displayed below.
