Whistler Mountain viewIn 2010, Canada's world-famous Whistler Blackcomb skiing area will become the Host Mountain Resort for the upcoming Vancouver Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Whistler has a long history of interest in the Winter Olympic Games and in 1968, made an unsuccessful bid for the event.

The following decade actually saw Whistler being offered the opportunity to host the 1976 games, after Denver dropped out of the running, although on this occasion the offer was declined, due to lack of support and funding, and these Winter Olympics ultimately took place in Innsbruck, Austria.

However, today things are quite different and preparations are already well underway for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, with construction of the Whistler Olympic and Paralympic Village (Athlete's Village), capable of accommodating more than 2,000 athletes, already well in progress.
