Whistler Museums

(Whistler, British Columbia - BC, Canada)

Central village view, showing summer touristsThe resort town of Whistler may be all about Alpine skiing, but is does contain a rather interesting local history museum, as well as a series of reputable art galleries. Often overlooked by many a skier, the Whistler Museum and Archives Society enjoys a central location on the Main Street and was established in the mid-1980s, to create a collection of memorabilia, documents and artefacts relating to day-to-day mountain life in Whistler over the years, which generally date from the sixties onwards.

The Whistler Museum and Archives Society is well worth finding and is today home to a huge number of old photograph, relics from the pioneer era and community of Alta Lake, and exhibits relating to the Native Indian cultures, who have lived within this area for literally hundreds of years.

Further village pictureAlso housed within the Whistler Museum and Archives Society is a section devoted to natural history and the various trans-migratory birds, and a further area clearly documenting each each of past bids to host the Winter Olympics.

An onsite gift shop is available, selling a range of illustrated books, postcards with historical and vintage photos, and greetings cards.
