Paraty Shopping and Districts

(Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

There are plenty of shops, kiosks and stalls spread around the resort of Paraty, suiting those who enjoy holiday shopping. Many shops in Paraty target tourists and are filled with souvenirs of varying quality. Some of the best gifts include original rainforest art works, printed textiles, wooden carvings, model boats, local antiquities and an endless array of original handmade jewellery.

Those doing a spot of souvenir shopping in Paraty often find themselves purchasing a number of brightly coloured T-shirts or beachwear, while others may find themselves packing a hammock into their suitcase at the end of their holiday.

Where to Shop

As you walk around the cobblestone streets of central Paraty, do take the time to explore the shops. In particular, try to purchase a bottle or two of the Brazilian speciality drink - 'cachaca'.

Many different brands of this drink are sold around the town, particularly on the Rua do Comercio and the Rua da Lapa. Cachaca is made with sugarcane and often flavoured with cinnamon or coconut. Some of the bottles are true works of art in their own right and make for very unusual gifts.
