Paraty Restaurants and Dining

(Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

Paraty is a seaside town with bags of character, and its restaurants often occupy charming colonial-style buildings, next to the cobblestones. However, those dining out in the historic centre of Paraty will find these local eateries can be quite pricey, with the same being said for those overlooking the River Perecé and the coastline.

A number of popular restaurants reside around the Praca do Chafariz, on roads such as the Rua da Ferraria, the Rua da Lapa and the Rua Dona Geralda. Just outside of the historic centre, the Avenida Roberto Silveira is home to some cheap self-service dining options, suiting those looking for a quick bite to eat.

Where to Eat

Tourists generally come to Paraty for its surrounding beaches, such as Lulas, Saco da Velha and Vermelha. Most beaches are within relatively close proximity to good restaurants, along with kiosks / stalls (barracas), which serve grilled fish, Brazilian beer and ice cream.

The Praia do Pontal is one of Paraty's nearest beaches, lying just across the river, and comes with an array of restaurants lining its shore, offering al fresco dining with pleasant views. Further eateries lie to the north, next to the beaches of the Praia do Forte and the Praia do Jabaquara, as well as around the neighbouring island beaches of Araujo and Sapeca.
