Getting Around, St. George's Travel, Transport and Car Rental
(St. George's, Bermuda)
Most tourists travel to St. George's via the parish's very own international airport, which serves the entire island. Arranging transportation from St. George's town to other destinations on
Bermuda is easy thanks to the island's small size and the constant availability of taxis.
Public buses and rental scooters are viable means of transport for budget-conscious travellers. Locally, there's no substitute for exploring the town, and especially Water Street, on foot, with many of the attractions being conveniently situated just a short stroll from each other.

The formerly named Bermuda International Airport is located right here in St. George's Parish, but is on the other side of the harbour on St. David's Island. During the peak season (May to September), the airport receives regular flights from all over the eastern quadrant of North America, as well as from the UK. Amongst the most notable airlines are Air Canada (
Halifax and
Toronto), American Airlines (
Miami and
New York), British Airways (
London), Continental (Newark), Delta (
Atlanta and
Boston), US Airways (
Charlotte,
Philadelphia and
Washington), and USA3000 (
Baltimore and Philadelphia).
Connecting to the town centre is easy thanks to the causeway over the harbour, and taxis are on hand to make the ten-minute journey.

Car Rental
Car rental is not an option on Bermuda, although that isn't a problem for most visitors. The lack of availability of rental cars drives taxi fares up, but the trade-off is a surprisingly serene environment where traffic is seldom a consideration. Scooters are offered for rent from St. George's town and are ideal if you are looking for that extra level of freedom.
Buses and Coaches
Next to travelling by taxi, the easiest way to get around the island is by public bus. Reaching the city of
Hamilton is easy, because the bus exchange is located there. Bus transport is particularly inexpensive and runs as far west as Somerset Village, whilst also connecting many of the island's main beaches.
Taxis
Taxis are the main mode of tourist transportation between St. George's and any other destination on the island.
Cars are metered and fares are relatively high, but this is kept in check by the fact that the distance between any two points on Bermuda is short. Fares rise by as much as 25 percent between the hours of midnight and 06:00, as well as on public holidays and Sundays.
Boats and Ferries
Cruise ships are a major component of travel to this part of Bermuda, with the local terminal being located off Water Street and King's Square.
The high cruise season is especially busy and runs between April and November, during which time ships regularly arrive from as far afield as New York City, as well as other smaller cities along the US eastern seaboard.
