Many visitors travel to St. George's Parish expecting to encounter a balmy, tropical climate. This happens because cruise companies and other travel providers often group Bermuda together with the Caribbean, despite the fact that the Caribbean Islands are hundreds of miles to the south.

The fact is, Bermuda is due east of Georgia, and its weather has more in common with the southern US than the islands to the south. Like all of the towns and cities on this island, St. George's is sheltered by the 'Bermuda high', a weather phenomenon that stabilises temperatures throughout the year. Expect comfortable winters that are too cool for swimming, and warm summers that are perfect for outdoor activities including beach-going, kayaking, tennis and golf.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Most tourists visit St. George's during the summer climate, as going to the beach is an integral part of any holiday here. Temperatures hang around 30°C / 86°F on average, with relatively little variation day to day. During this time, the Atlantic waters can be slightly warmer than this, producing ideal snorkelling and swimming conditions.

The off-season officially begins around November, when many of the attractions in St. George's adopt reduced hours of operation. Most of the government-related attractions are only open on Wednesdays, so anyone taking a day trip here is advised to visit on this day. It's also worth mentioning that hurricanes, however rare, pass through the Atlantic during the winter.
