Housed in a 19th-century colonnaded mansion, the Aberdeen Art Gallery is home to one of the finest collections in the UK and as such, enjoys high visitor numbers all through the year. At the Blairs Museum you can gain a taster of Scotland's rich Catholic heritage, with its many religious paintings covering more than five centuries of worship.

Highlights of the permanent exhibition here include sculptures, paintings and graphic art from the 15th century onwards. Temporary exhibitions of works by leading contemporary artists provide variety, while special events are held regularly. The Aberdeen Art Gallery was founded as far back as 1885 and features both a cafe and a gift shop, selling postcards, books, greetings cards and jewellery.

Blairs Museum

Located within an imposing 19th-century former Roman Catholic college for boys, Blairs Museum holds the history of the Catholic Church in Scotland. Its spectacular collections include magnificent paintings, sculptures, Jacobite memorabilia, silver and gold altar furniture, and religious textiles. Look out for the family activity days, the seasonal concerts and the visiting exhibitions. The adjacent St. Mary's Chapel may also be of interest and has some magnificent stained-glass windows.
