Romerberg
The Romerberg Square is prized in Frankfurt because parts of it remain completely intact and undamaged by WWII. It underwent a massive restoration project in the 1980s and so is now exptremely presentable and back to its full medieval glory. The Romer is the pride of the plaza and this beautiful building has served as the city hall (Rathaus) for around 600 years. This square is very popular and lots of people choose to meet up here, so it does get rather busy, especially at the weekend.

Magnificent Skyscrapers
Frankfurt is quite an unusual European city, in that it permits the building of some colossal skyscrapers, bang smack in the heart of the city centre. Many areas of the city have developed quite a strange character and now appear more American than perhaps German. The shining facades make for quite a contrast to the more historic buildings and create some wacky reflections. The Commerzbank Tower is one of Frankfurt's tallest skyscrapers and when it was completed in 2004, it was the tallest building in the whole of Europe.
