Isle of Wight Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Isle of Wight, England, UK)

The weather on the Isle of Wight is affected mainly by the sea breezes and by the high incidence of warm south-westerly winds. Some areas of the island are particularly sheltered by large cliffs, such as the coast between Blackgang and Luccombe, including Ventnor, where the climate is usually extremely mild.

During the summer months of June, July, August and September, the Isle of Wight has much fine and often extremely sunny weather and the climate is generally between one and two degrees higher in temperature than on mainland Hampshire.

Spring is a particularly popular time to visit the Isle of Wight and the weather is fairly mild during March, April and May, although some days may be wet and windy. The sub-climate on the south-eastern side of the island tends to be noticeably milder at this time of the year.

Temperatures soon fall as the winter months approach, so be sure to bring a warm overcoat, scarf and gloves. Snow is infrequent, but there are often cold, clear, frosty days. December, January and February are the wettest months on the island, although don't despair, there are also more than a handful of extremely sunny winter days, with cloudless blue skies, often accompanied by ferocious winds. If you are planning to visit outdoor locations, then be sure to bring waterproofs or an umbrella, unless you are feeling confident with the day's forecast.
