Getting Around, Lyme Regis Travel, Transport and Car Rental

(Lyme Regis, Dorset, England, UK)

Aerial view of the town centreLyme Regis is a fairly small seaside town and the best way to travel around is on foot, although bus transport is available if necessary. Tourists will find themselves strolling along the Marine Parade to reach the main Lyme Regis beachfront attractions and cafes.

Car transport is a convenient way to travel and is ideal for short trips out of town, and although the car park at the Cobb is certainly well placed, it is quite expensive and often very busy. Lyme Regis therefore provides a popular park and ride service during the summer season (between mid-July and the end of August), which is based on the outskirts of town, on Charmouth Road and Sidmouth Road - off the A3052.

Car Rental

Coming to Lyme Regis with your own vehicle is by far the easiest way to travel around this part of Dorset. Day trips are all the more easy if you have a car, with Exeter being less than an hour to the west and reached along the A3052, passing Axmouth, Sidmouth, Harpford, Newton Poppleford and Exminster along the way. The M5 motorway can be reached at Exeter and heads north to Taunton, Weston Super Mare and Bristol. If you intend to travel eastwards and to Dorchester, you will likely use the A35 (Dorchester Road), which runs by West Bay, Bridport, Chilcombe and Winterbourne Steepleton. Relatively nearby Lyme Regis, the A303 leads to Salisbury and Basingstoke, and connects the M25 motorway surrounding London.
