General Information

The town of Chard is close by and where the Forde Abbey and Gardens stand, while on the outskirts of Chard lies the Cricket St. Thomas Lakes and Gardens. This popular attraction is no longer accessible for children as it now has an age limit of 21 years old, although it still has train rides, a public house and Warner leisure hotel that incorporates the beautiful manor house made so famous by the BBC TV sitcom, To The Manor Born.

Close to both Lyme Regis and Chard are the towns of Crewkerne and Dorchester, the latter of which has strong connections to novelist and poet Thomas Hardy (1840 to 1928). Abbotsbury is especially near to Dorchester and is where you will find the acclaimed Abbotsbury Swannery, Subtropical Gardens, Children's Farm and Terracotta Warriors Museum.

Located approximately 51 km / 32 miles to the west of Lyme Regis, the university city of Exeter has excellent transport connections and historical attractions, such as its cathedral, medieval churches, guildhall, quayside, canal cruises and ancient underground passages. On the very outskirts of Exeter, the Crealy Great Adventure Park is another popular family attraction and makes for a great day out.
