Larnaca International Airport (LCA) Information

(Larnaca, Cyprus))

Photo of Larnaca International Airport (LCA)Larnaca International Airport is the largest in Cyprus and the main international air arrival point on the Greek half of this divided island. Set just a few kilometres from the city centre, next to the Larnaca Salt Lake, it handles over five million passengers annually, the majority of whom arrive during the holiday season. Its commercial passenger terminal is on two levels, with Arrivals set at ground level and Departures on the first floor. In addition, a small VIP terminal is kept for private aviation purposes and visiting dignitaries.

After the Turkish invasion of the island in July 1974, which resulted in the closure of Nicosia International Airport, Greek aviation officials scrambled to arrange the construction of Larnaca Airport as its replacement. The chosen site had been previously used by the British military and the present-day airport has been redesigned, renovated and rebuilt to serve the south and south-west of the island.

Larnaca International Airport's new passenger terminal was opened in 2009 and provides spacious, well-equipped and comfortable areas for travellers, although onward transportation for arrivals is still limited. Almost 70 check-in counters, eight self-check-in stands and over 2,000 parking bays enable the facility to cope with demand until the second phase of rebuilding is complete in 2013.
