The Lakewood Square
The area around Lakewood Square is a particularly pleasant part of the city and is a couple of miles or so from downtown Dallas. One of the main reasons that people come here is to catch a show or group at the Lakewood Theatre. Another reason is its proximity to the White Rock Lake, where you can go sailing or go for a walk around it.

Take a Horse and Carriage Around Dallas
It might be a bit twee and something that only tourists really do, but taking a horse and carriage ride around Dallas really was nice. My wife thought that it was a very romantic idea of mine, so that was a bonus. We started out in the West End and passed Dealey Park. Look out for the very, very famous Dallas County Administration Building (formerly the Texas Book Depository), where Lee Harvey Oswalld fired those chilling shots when JFK was assasinated below.

Dallas and the Flight Museum
You've gotta check out the Flight Museum in all its glory. It is found at the Love Field Airport, on Lemmon Avenue and contains some very historical exhibits and drawings. There is a flying machine model created from a drawing by Leonardo Da Vicni, and lots of planes from both World Wars. Admission charges are nice and low.

Visiting Fort Worth - it's very close by
Fort Worth is a close by Texan city and is a very friendly place to visit. Much of the city is well pedestrianised and you can get here from Dallas by railway in under an hour. The Fort Worth Stockyards are one of the most famous sights in the city. Tourists generally come away with a traditional cowboy hat. My son came away with an obligatory hat, and cowboy boots to match! You could easily spend a whole holiday based here if you wanted. The hotels were a bit cheaper, so I might do that if I ever come back. There is much more going on at Dallas though.
